How You Can Donate Your Old Shoes to the Needy
Shoes can often become the worst culprit for clogging up your closet. This will make you want to throw some of them away even if they are in good condition and can be used again. But throwing them will not be the best move as they can be donated to the needy ones. Shoes are one of the most popular items for donations. If you want to clean out your closet and at the same time want to donate these shoes to the needy, you have to keep the following points in mind before giving them up for donation.
- The pair of shoes either have to be new or gently used:
This is the most important guideline that you will have to follow. The shoes you decide to donate either have to be new or gently used without much damage. This doesn’t mean that you will have to buy new shoes every time you decide to donate, but you cannot donate worn-out shoes. This is because no one deserves to wear worn-out shoes.
- You need to check the sole properly:
The sole is the most important part of a shoe. Before giving your shoes for donations, you have to make sure that the sole is in good condition. This is because these shoes will be worn by people who cannot afford to buy new shoes frequently. In such a case, if you give them shoes that have damaged soles, they will not be able to use them for longer and suffer from many unnecessary injuries. Therefore, ensure that the sole is in the best condition before you donate it to somebody.
- You should check the laces:
Laces on the shoes can get worn out quickly, especially if they are worn frequently. Without good laces, a lace-up shoe is not going to serve anyone. If the pair of shoes you are planning to donate has worn-out laces, you should consider spending a few bucks and getting new laces before donating them.
- Your pair of shoes should not have any holes:
No holes are allowed in the shoes that are supposed to be donated. The shoes that have holes in them go against the entire motive of donating. People donate their things to the needy to ensure that they get access to the things they cannot afford. Another important motive of donating is that the receiver can use these things for a longer period without any problem. But if you donate shoes that consist of holes, then they will not last long enough. That is why shoes with holes are generally not accepted by even charity houses.
For you, an old pair of shoes lying around in your room is just a source of nuisance, but for somebody who has not owned a nice pair of shoes for their entire life, it is a luxury. Before just throwing away your shoes in the trash, consider donating them if they are in good condition. Even if they are not in good condition, do not just throw them in a trash can as that results in pollution. You should try to recycle your worn-out shoes.
